Soft Washing And Your Home: How It Works

You probably know that regular exterior cleaning is the best way to keep your home visually appealing and protected from harmful contaminants like algae, mold, and bird droppings. However, not all exterior cleaning methods are made equal. The same type of pressure washing that's perfect for cleaning your driveway can be potentially damaging if it's used on your rooftop or certain types of siding.
What to do? Fortunately, pressure washing is not the only method that we use to clean property exteriors. Our cleaning experts often rely on an alternative cleaning technique called soft washing for many of our most important cleaning jobs.
Soft Washing Vs. Pressure Washing
As the name implies, pressure washing relies heavily on the force of highly pressurized water to remove stubborn stains and trapped grime. The PSI (or pounds per square inch) of force that the average pressure washer can generate ranges anywhere from 1,000 to 4,000. When we're cleaning hard, dense surfaces like concrete, this kind of force is excellent because it allows water to penetrate the tough surface and flush out all the nooks and crannies where stains can get trapped. However, this high-PSI cleaning can potentially warp, mark, or even break more delicate surfaces if not used very, very carefully.
That's where soft washing comes in. Unlike pressure washing, soft washing doesn't rely on heavy force. Typically, soft washing sprays are at or under 1,000 PSI, and oftentimes they exert next to no pressure at all. Instead, soft washing relies on special cleaning detergents to do the work for them. A soft washer saturates the dirty surface with a solution mixed with cleaners designed to target the specific contaminants affecting the surface (like algae, grime, or rust stains), and after the detergent has some time to sit and do its stuff, it's rinsed away with clean water, taking the remaining grime with it.
When Is Soft Washing Used?
Soft washing is used as an alternative to traditional pressure washing services when normal pressure washing would either be too excessive or too unsafe to use on certain materials like stucco, painted wood, or shingles. We frequently use soft washing for jobs like:
- House Washing
- Roof Cleaning
- Building Washing
- Storefront Cleaning
- Some Deck and Fence Cleaning Jobs
Rest assured, even though soft washing is less forceful than normal pressure washing, it's not less effective when it comes to cleaning the surface. You get all the benefits of normal pressure washing without any of the risks!
